                                                                         TUINA

Tui: To push  Na: To grasp

Tuina is a type of medical massage, and an important component of Traditional Chinese Medicine offered in TCM hospitals in China. Like Shiatsu, Tuina works on balancing patterns of disharmony in the body by improving the meridians' energy flow. However, the main characteristic of Tuina is the vigorous application of different sets of specific manipulations combined with pressure points.

Tuina’s advantages over simple massage are its ability to focus on specific problems, especially chronic pain associated with the muscles, joints, and skeletal system. It’s especially effective for joint pain (such as arthritis), sciatica, muscle spasms, and pain in the back, neck, and shoulders. It also helps chronic conditions such as insomnia, constipation, headaches (including migraines), and the tension associated with stress.

My practice has naturally evolved around integrating Tuina into Shiatsu sessions that require a more dynamic approach and into Chair Massage sessions where the Tuina techniques can act on the straightforward physical complaints  of shoulder, back and neck, effectively and immediately.
